Hypothesis of zinc ascorbate as best zinc ionophore for raising antiviral resistance against Covid-19

Compounds that help zinc enter the cell in higher than average concentration from diet and zinc supplements alone, called “zinc ionophores”, could fight the Sars-CoV-2 virus inside the cell, thus fighting Covid-19.

According to the available research, zinc ascorbate, a molecule comprised of an atom of zinc linked to two molecules of ascorbate, is the zinc compound with the most prominent ionophore activity and has more potential against Covid-19 than zinc alone, other zinc compounds and zinc plus vitamin C.

For this reason, zinc ascorbate has the potential to prevent and treat Covid-19 and should be clinically tested as soon as possible.
